About The High Expectations Foundation
The High Expectations Foundation provides student-athletes with the tools and resources they need to ensure their hard work on the court translates to success in the classroom and beyond.
While coaching the Georgia Fire basketball team, Ronald Porter saw a need and started this organization in 2012. He noticed that many talented students were not achieving their potential because they lacked the resources and support to excel in school and on the court.
With The High Expectations Foundation, he created a family-like community where student-athletes can be empowered to improve their performance with excellence.

Message From Our Founder
My name is Ronald E. Porter Jr. I am the Founder of Georgia Fire basketball and the CEO of The High Expectations Foundation Inc. I am from Richmond Ca. My father died when I was 6
years old in an industrial accident, my mother passed when I was 19 from breast cancer. I grew up in the crime infested Iron Triangle area of my hometown. The movie Coach Carter is based on events that happened in my city. As a boy sports were a major distraction from the negative influences that were present in my environment. I was positively influenced by youth football and basketball coaches that sacrificed their time and energy to be positive influences on my peers and I. As an average high school basketball player I met 2 young gentlemen that would change my life forever. Hashim Alaudeen and Calvin Andrews were graduates of my high school who were in their early twenties and had big dreams. They created Oakland Soldier basketball and Scholar Athletes a nonprofit that helped to guide young men on a path to success. They introduced us to ideas outside of the negativity that surrounded us that gave us hope. Education and exposure were significant factors in my peers and I succeeding.
I followed their footsteps and created Georgia Fire basketball in 2012. I had coached youth basketball for a couple of years and I felt that the families that I was interacting with were being taking advantage of. High league and tournament prices, lack of available information, and limited exposure were minimizing opportunities for young people and their families. We wanted to maximize the options available to our youth and their families. We created a transparent infrastructure that was based on providing tools to success. We built our parents and players up physically, mentally and in confidence. We developed a family environment based on wanting for the people around you the same things that you want for self. Success is the goal and the best way to achieve it is working together as a team. In an effort to continue to the growth towards our goals we created The High Expectations Foundation in 2021 to help provide positive options for young people. We want to broaden perspectives and provide open to doors to potential greatness through athletics, academics, and trades. I am a true believer in hard work paying off because I have seen it.

How do I know if the programs work?
Check out our testimonials from former student-athletes who returned to volunteer after graduating from our programs.
A similar program called Scholar Athletes worked for Ronald Porter, which is why he used it as a blueprint for High Expectations Foundation.
